VIDEOS: UFC 205 Fighters Miss Weight, Fight Gets Cancelled

The official results are in, and not everybody made weight ahead of UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor.

NEW YORK — The UFC’s greatest card to date took a couple of hits today, as two fighters missed weight, causing a last-minute fight cancellation.

Thiago Alves failed to make weight ahead of his debut at lightweight (155 lbs) and stepped onto the scales weighing 162.6 lbs. The New York State Athletic Commission requires fighters to be within five pounds of each other, and so Alves’ opponent, Jim Miller, was forced to rehydrate back up to 157.6 lbs, making the bout a 163 lbs catchweight fight. Alves will surrender 20 percent of his fight purse to Miller.

Kelvin Gastelum failed to step on the scales during the official weigh-ins and was therefore was unable to make weight. Unfortunately, his opponent Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone had already weighed in at 170.4 lbs and did not have the opportunity to rehydrate, causing the highly-anticipated fight between Gastelum and Cerrone to be cancelled.
