Mark Hunt on Putting Stipe Miocic to Sleep: “You get hit once, it’s lights out baby”

On March 4, 2015 By

Submission Radio were in attendance for the UFC Fight Night Adelaide: Hunt vs. Miocic media event at the Adelaide entertainment centre on Monday. Hosts Kacper Rosolowski and Denis Shkuratov spoke to Mark Hunt about his upcoming fight against Stipe Miocic on May 10th in Australia, as well as other topics surrounding his storied journey over the last few months.

In the video above, The Super Samoan talks about his advantages over Stipe, his devastating loss against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 in Mexico, how it feels to have a full training camp under him, how active he’s been since the Werdum fight, the new “zoo” training he’s been doing, fighting in his own backyard, what motivates him and why he continues to fight.

Mark on why he believes he can put Stipe to sleep in Adelaide

“Well I am one of the best fighters in the world you know (laughs). It doesn’t matter how technical you are. You get hit once, it’s lights out baby. But I respect Stipe like all my opponents. You know I only made that mistake one time and I got knocked out by Melvin Manhoef. I didn’t respect him but you know you learn, you move on, and come may 10th we’re going to be gunning for each other. So it’s going to be great.”

On improvements to his ground game

“Well I don’t think much of my ground game at all. I mean these guys are way better than me. Come and take me to the ground. I don’t mind where the party goes. We can party on the ground or standing up. So if you don’t think my ground’s not good, try me.”

On fighting for the title again if he beats Stipe

“Well look I hope so man. I mean Stipe is number four, he’s one of the best fighters on the planet you know. We don’t muck around here, this is the top end and I’m looking forward to trying to get further than him. He’s like trying to put me out so he that can get further than me, so this our business. I mean apart from that I respect the man totally. What we do, I mean this is a hard business and I feel like I could get into that top end and get the number one challenge or the title shot. So this is what we’re both gunning for. So we want that belt. All of us want that belt.”
