UFC lightweight Jake Matthews shows you how to throw elbows from the guard.

Aussie UFC Lightweight Jake Matthews returns for this week’s Technique of the Week, once again with the help of his father and head coach of XLR8 training centre, Mick Matthews.

With just one week left before Jake steps in the octagon against Akbarh Arreola at UFC 193, Jake demonstrates his second last technique. This week, “The Celtic Kid” demonstrates how to posture up from your opponent’s guard and throw devastating elbows to the face. The key to this technique, is to first trap your opponent’s arm, then proceed to strike. Jake explains how to get even more bang for your buck, by exposing the bone in your arm.

Jake is a UFC lightweight with four submission victories to his name (two in the UFC), and is currently scheduled to headline the UFC 193 prelims against Akbarh Arreola on November 15th (14th in the US). The 21-year-old is looking to bounce back from the first ever professional loss of his career. Jake was submitted via guillotine choke back in May, by heavy underdog James Vick, at UFC Fight Night: Miocic vs. Hunt.
