WATCH: Back take from Butterfly guard! – by Jake Matthews

On October 14, 2015 By

UFC lightweight Jake Matthews demonstrates how to take your opponent’s back from the butterfly guard.

Aussie UFC Lightweight Jake Matthews and 4th degree BJJ black belt Carlos ‘Portuguese’ Vieira return for this week’s Technique of the Week.

Last week, Jake demonstrated a way to pass your opponent’s butterfly guard into full mount. This week, the 21-year-old BJJ brown belt shows you what to do if your opponent frames with their arm and stops you from passing. Watch as Jake opts for an alternative transition, takes Carlos’ back, and sinks in a rear-naked choke.

Jake is a UFC lightweight with four submission victories to his name (two in the UFC), and is currently scheduled to headline the UFC 193 prelims against Akbarh Arreola in November. Carlos on the other hand, is a 4th degree black belt, not to mention 2x Pan-American champion, a 2005 Brazilian champion, and a 2x Pan-Pacific champion.

Check out the video above for the technique, and don’t forget to subscribe HERE for a new technique every Wednesday!
