With UFC 190 now a distant memory and Ronda Rousey’s 34 second destruction of Bethe Correia feeling like an eternity ago, we continue the trend of “Judo in MMA” for our Technique of the Week and show you how to better utilize your Judo skills in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. Who better to demonstrate than the man who competed in four Olympic games (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012) and currently competes in the UFC’s middleweight division, Australia’s own Dan Kelly. This week, rather than focusing on one specific technique or move, Dan goes through some of the finer points of Judo in MMA. As a Judoka that transitioned into a similar yet different sport, Dan talks about some of the mistakes that he went through and are commonly made by Judo practitioners in mixed martial arts. Being that is is the “Technique of the week”, Dan gets straight to the point and doesn’t mess about, but he does cover two vital points in the video above, that will improve your Judo game once inside the cage.
